Have you ever had a crazy idea?
When I decided to be a victim advocate no one said, “That is a great idea”… No one, ever. When I decided to become an entrepreneur with Arbonne, do you think someone said to me, “That is a great idea?” No! When I decided to write a book and start a non-profit project, no one supported me and said, “That is a great idea.” As a matter of fact, what people said was, “You are not making good decisions for your family, you are crazy, you are going to go broke for working with a company that is not viable.” When I recently announced I was “called” to start a culturally rooted tour company on Maui as a passion project, I was told, “It’s going to fail. Can’t you just calm down and not work so hard?” The list goes on, but I did them anyway. I did it because I was “nudged” to do these things, strongly nudged! Good thing these ideas were not my ideas so I didn’t have to take offense to not only the lack of support of the ideas, but also the comments and opinions that were adamantly against the ideas.
These were not my ideas at all. They were nudges.
Ideas come within. Nudges come from outside and off the radar. Nudges cannot always be understood and most of the time, do not make any sense. The reason for the nudges are outside of common understanding. They test faith.
I am so far from being the deserving one, the special one, or the equipped one. But I am willing. I have learned…with a lot of kicking and screaming in the process…to know that I, specifically, am being asked to be used as an instrument for something bigger than me. Each of us is nudged to do this or that…but we quickly dismiss for numerous reasons. But when you are in the flow of identifying, surrendering, and following the nudges…there is a feeling of living alive.
“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (ESV)
Do you hear voices?
What voices are you listening to? The one in your head that over analyzes everything, the voice that tells you that you are not enough, the people (or crabs in your life that pull you back down in the bucket with them) that attempt to hold you back, the person that believes in you and supports you, the voice of the Almighty?
“The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.” Psalm 93:4 (KJV)
Do not take advise from someone more messed up than you! Don’t take advice from people that mean well, but have no idea what it is you are taking about. Don’t take advise from really smart people, but don’t support things outside of the box, because this is where the magic happens.
